Miss Turkey 2006 Merve Buyuksarac has been handed a 14-month
imprisonment for insulting Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan on her
Instagram account.
In 2014, Buyuksarac wrote a poem which she called "The Master’s Poem" on her timeline using verses from Turkey's national anthem while throwing dabs at Erdoga. A Turkish this week court found her guilty "defamation" and "publicly insulting" the Turkish leader.
On why she wrote the poem 27-year-old Miss Buyuksarac said:

“I shared it because I found it funny. I had no intention to insult President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.”
