"Ghana must go" bags. |
The xenophobia of a thing did not start occurring in Africa today. In the early 1980s, Nigerians protested the surging rates of Ghanians in the country claiming their fellow West Africans have taken up most of the available jobs in the country thereby making life hard for them.
The federal government in 1983 deported over 700,000 Ghanaians back to Ghana. Most of the deportees packed their luggages in the type of bags commonly referred to today as "Ghana must go" bags.
