41-year-old Tyrel Martin Marhanka from the United States Of America
until his death lived in Taiwan with his family. On Thursday 16th June, a
judge handed the father of two who married a Taiwanese woman a life
sentence after being found guilty of repeated drug-related offences.
Moments after his conviction by justice Wang Yi-min, the man revealed a
pair of scissors he hid hid under his clothes, took them apart and
stabbed himself on the two sides of the throat with each blade of the
sharp metal object. He died minutes later although efforts were
immediately made to rescue him.
"We deeply regret that Tyrel Martin Marhanka killed himself during the sentencing.
"He was cooperative during the investigation and the trial. His attitude was mild and he did not show any signs that he would commit suicide."
