A Nigerian mother went into labour aboard a sinking boat in the Mediterranean sea just off the coast of Italy on September 4th as the boat made its way to the Island of Lampudusa. The unnamed woman was among thousands of Nigerians seeking a better life in Europe by attempting to cross the sea between North Africa and Italy on rickety boats.

She was rescued by Italian coast guard, Guardia Costiera and helped off the boat by a coast guard. She and the baby were taken to the hospital after delivery. They are both doing well at the moment.
