An enourmous wolffish was caught by baffled Japanese fishermen
After the creature was caught and boarded, the fishermen identified it as quite harmless Bering wolffish. They also believe that the fish is one of the largest wolffish ever recorded.
Adult wolffish can grow to 112 cm and weigh up to 15 kg but the captured creature’s length is estimated to be around 2m long.
Despite its monstrous looks and scary name wolffish is not dangerous for humans, it dines on crabs and mollusks.
Hiroshi Hirasaka, who uploaded the photos to Twitter, wrote: “It was
worth flying to Shiretoko [Hokkaido] twice within three months. This guy
is super cool! People have been asking for more pictures of the Bering
wolffish, so here’s another one.”
